Privacy commissioner backs transparency in five areas of artificial intelligence
Canada’s privacy watchdog highlighted AI-generated content, interactions, system information, incidents and agents in a new federal consultation submission.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada says new artificial-intelligence transparency measures should address five areas identified in a federal consultation: AI-generated content, AI interactions, information about AI systems, AI incidents and AI agents.
The privacy office published its submission to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada on October 23. It agreed that transparency problems can arise in each of the five areas and said dealing with them would support responsible innovation.
The submission is advice to an ongoing government consultation, not a new law or binding rule. The commissioner also linked the discussion to a 2025 statement by G7 privacy authorities that described transparency as essential to public trust in AI.
