Atlantic panel calls for single regional market and $1-billion fund
An independent Atlantic economic panel has released seven recommendations, including a single regional market and a proposed $1-billion prosperity fund; Ottawa says it will assess the report.

An independent Atlantic economic panel has released seven recommendations for the region, including creation of a more integrated regional market and a proposed $1-billion Atlantic prosperity fund.
The panel’s September 25 report also points to closer electricity-grid coordination, development of natural resources, regulatory changes, and wider adoption of artificial intelligence. These are recommendations, not adopted federal policy or approved spending.
The federal government says it will assess the report. It also announced nearly $400,000 for St. Francis Xavier University to organize an Atlantic Growth Forum planned for May 31 to June 2, 2027.
Businesses and residents should distinguish the panel’s proposed fund and reforms from programs currently open for applications. Implementation would require future government decisions and, in some cases, cooperation among provinces.
