Evenepoel and Reusser win world time-trial titles in Montréal

Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel and Switzerland’s Marlen Reusser won the elite individual time trials as the 2026 UCI Road World Championships opened in Montréal on Sunday, September 20.

Evenepoel completed the 39.2-kilometre men’s course in 44 minutes 53.13 seconds. Italy’s Filippo Ganna finished 57.31 seconds behind, and France’s Paul Seixas took bronze at 1 minute 13.04 seconds.

The result made Evenepoel the first rider to win four consecutive elite world titles in the discipline. It also gave him four titles in total, matching the men’s record held by Fabian Cancellara and Tony Martin.

Reusser won the women’s event in 50:24.44, retaining the title she captured in 2025. Britain’s Zoe Bäckstedt was second, 40.11 seconds back, while Germany’s Franziska Koch finished third at 45.54 seconds.

The women’s official results placed Canada’s Nadia Gontova 19th in 53:38.11 and Olivia Baril 23rd in 55:11.01.

What comes next

The championships continue Monday with the women’s and men’s under-23 time trials. A mixed relay and the junior individual time trials are scheduled Tuesday. The elite road races are set for Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27.
