The federal government says Budget 2026 proposes nearly $30 billion for a 10-year homelessness plan combining rental assistance, supportive housing, community services and health facilities.

A November 7 federal release breaks the package into five main commitments:

  • $6.5 billion to renew and strengthen the Reaching Home initiative and support for veteran homelessness;
  • $5.5 billion to renew the Canada Housing Benefit, which provides direct monthly rental assistance to low-income households;
  • $10 billion through Build Canada Homes for about 25,000 supportive and transitional homes, with provinces and territories expected to fund operations and resident services;
  • $5 billion for a new Integrated Supports Fund linking housing with health, mental-health, addiction and other services; and
  • $2 billion for community mental-health and addiction-treatment infrastructure.

These are budget proposals, not completed projects. The release does not provide a Montréal or Québec allocation, project list or delivery timetable. Local effects will depend on program design, legislative and spending approvals, and agreements with provincial and community partners.

The figures and stated 10-year goal come from a Women and Gender Equality Canada release dated November 7, 2026.
