Guy-Lafleur bridge gains two history panels

Two interpretation panels now trace the century-long history of the link between L’Île-Bizard and Sainte-Geneviève and explain the bridge’s name.

Two interpretation panels have been installed at opposite ends of the Guy-Lafleur bridge, giving people crossing between L’Île-Bizard and Sainte-Geneviève a short account of the link’s history and the hockey star whose name the bridge carries.

The borough of L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève said the displays cover more than a century of crossings at the site. One panel is on the Île-Bizard side, where the bicycle path meets the route toward Parc Denis-Benjamin-Viger. The other is on the Sainte-Geneviève side, beside the bicycle path shortly before the bamboo wall on the bridge approach.

The panels add local context for pedestrians and cyclists using the bridge. The borough’s November 3 announcement describes the installation as complete; it is not a proposal or a future project.
