The federal government has listed the $5.9-billion Roberts Bank Terminal 2 container project in British Columbia as a project of national interest.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is the proponent and is working toward a final investment decision in mid-2027. Transport Canada said the listing could help move the planned opening from 2039 to 2035, but that timetable remains a projection rather than a completed outcome.

The project is designed to add capacity for 2.4 million twenty-foot-equivalent containers a year, which the government says would increase the Port of Vancouver’s container capacity by about 50 per cent. Ottawa said existing environmental and Indigenous consultation conditions remain in place.
