Ottawa adds $112 million to national sport funding and schedules November summit

The federal government says it is adding $112 million to national-level sport funding and will hold a two-day sport-system summit in Ottawa on November 9 and 10.

Canadian Heritage announced both measures in Calgary on September 11. The department says national sport organizations, multisport service organizations and the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network will receive additional mid-year funding through a streamlined process.

Alpine Canada receives a top-up

Alpine Canada’s federal support for 2026–27 will exceed $8 million after a $2.77-million top-up. The department says the money is intended for national-team and athlete programs, coaching, training, grassroots and adaptive participation, and system infrastructure.

Canadian Heritage also reported a private partnership under which Capital Power will invest $5 million in Alpine Canada in the first year, with as much as $20 million more over the partnership’s five-year term.

The November “Playground to Podium” summit is intended to bring sport organizations and public, private and philanthropic partners together around funding, participation, safe sport, high performance and event hosting. The releases announce funding and a meeting; they do not establish measured participation or performance results.
