Canada Post issues Force 136 Remembrance Day stamp
A new stamp honours the roughly 150 Chinese Canadians who served with the clandestine Second World War unit Force 136 and Australia’s SRD.

Canada Post has issued a Remembrance Day stamp honouring the approximately 150 Chinese Canadians who served with Force 136 or Australia’s Services Reconnaissance Department during the Second World War.
The operatives worked behind Japanese lines in Asia, where they gathered intelligence, supported resistance networks and carried out sabotage. Many volunteered while Chinese Canadians still faced discriminatory laws at home and were denied the federal vote.
The stamp uses a 1945 black-and-white photograph and the unit’s red phoenix insignia. It was designed by Clear Space and printed by Colour Innovations. Canada Post unveiled it at the Chinese Canadian Museum in Vancouver on November 3; it goes on sale at post offices and online on November 4.
The issue includes a booklet of six Permanent domestic-rate stamps, a pane of five and an official first-day cover.
