Nova Scotia and Bay Ferries Ltd. have signed an extension that will keep the Cat ferry operating between Yarmouth and Bar Harbor, Maine, in 2027.

The seasonal service is expected to run from May through October under the same general operating pattern used in 2026.

The province said it will work with Bay Ferries on options for a more sustainable long-term arrangement. No term beyond 2027 or financial value for the extension was provided in the October 16 announcement.

Bay Ferries reported traffic growth of 10 per cent during the 2026 season. Nova Scotia says the route supports tourism, rural businesses and cross-border connections, but the new agreement is a one-season extension rather than a permanent operating settlement.
