The federal government announced a $23.8-million investment in Jubilant Radiopharma’s Kirkland facility on October 8, backing a project intended to expand Canada’s domestic capacity to make radiopharmaceuticals.

According to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s October 8 release, the company’s broader project is valued at $94.5 million. The work is expected to add or modernize production lines, laboratories, storage and shipping space at the West Island site.

The department said the project is expected to create and maintain 225 jobs in Québec and support 35 co-op placements. The announcement describes planned outcomes; it does not mean every element of the expansion is already complete.

Radiopharmaceuticals combine radioactive material with a pharmaceutical agent and are used in medical imaging and some treatments. The Kirkland investment is being made through the federal Strategic Response Fund.
