Ottawa introduces Bill S-7 to reduce federal red tape
The proposed law would amend statutes and regulations across 11 departments and agencies, but must still pass Parliament.

The federal government has introduced legislation that it says would remove administrative barriers and modernize requirements across a range of regulated industries.
Bill S-7, titled the Cutting Red Tape for All Canadians Act, proposes amendments connected to 31 statutes and regulations administered by 11 federal departments and agencies. The measure was introduced on October 7 and has not yet become law.
The Treasury Board Secretariat says the proposed changes cover agriculture and food, fisheries, mining, telecommunications, transportation and digital services. The government describes the package as an effort to update outdated processes, remove duplication and make regulatory interactions more efficient.
Individual measures would still be subject to parliamentary review as Bill S-7 moves through the legislative process. Businesses and residents should therefore continue to follow existing legal requirements unless and until the relevant amendments take effect.
