Lachine plans one-way Rue Notre-Dame redesign for 2028

Lachine has outlined a redesign of Rue Notre-Dame that would widen sidewalks, convert the commercial street to one-way eastbound traffic and add more room for trees and street furniture.

The borough said the south-side sidewalk would be 3.12 metres wide and the north-side sidewalk 5.52 metres wide. Hydro-Québec is expected to reinstall utility lines underground, while parking would remain on both sides of the street.

Work planned for 2028

Construction is scheduled to start in 2028. Before then, the city still has to finish detailed plans, call for tenders and coordinate the work with project partners. The announcement is therefore a plan, not notice that construction has begun.

The borough says larger planting pits are intended to give tree roots more space and increase canopy coverage. New street furniture is also planned along the corridor.
