Complete preliminary results give PQ 59 seats; CAQ shut out

Parti Québécois won 59 of the National Assembly’s 127 seats in complete preliminary results from Québec’s October 5 election, leaving it five seats short of a majority.

The Quebec Liberal Party won 40 seats, the Conservative Party of Québec 19 and Québec solidaire nine. Coalition avenir Québec was shut out of the legislature.

The Parti Québécois received 1,199,925 votes, or 28.02 per cent of valid ballots. The Liberals had 1,037,051 votes (24.22 per cent), the Conservatives 885,164 (20.67 per cent), Coalition avenir Québec 571,520 (13.35 per cent) and Québec solidaire 532,176 (12.43 per cent).

Élections Québec recorded 4,345,857 ballots cast from 6,495,984 registered voters, for turnout of 66.89 per cent. Of those ballots, 4,282,551 were valid and 63,306 were rejected.

The official results data file included all 20,704 polling stations in all 127 ridings when checked at 2:23 a.m. Eastern time on October 6. Élections Québec cautions that election-night results remain preliminary until the official vote census.
