The Canada Water Agency has signed a memorandum of understanding with a group of philanthropic funders to coordinate work on water security, without announcing a new funding commitment.

The federal announcement published September 28 says the agreement with the Canada Water Security Funders Group covers knowledge sharing, water literacy, identification of mutual priorities and exploration of possible co-investment.

The funders group’s members collectively steward more than $2.4 billion in assets, according to the release. That asset figure is not the value of this memorandum and should not be read as money committed to federal water projects.

The partners also plan to explore wider public-private collaboration and engagement in the developing National Water Security Strategy. The federal government’s public survey on that strategy remains open until October 25.

West Island Blog previously reported on the national water-security survey and consultation. The new memorandum adds an institutional partnership but does not replace that public input process.
