Samuel De Champlain Bridge to glow orange Wednesday evening

The Samuel De Champlain Bridge will be illuminated orange from sunset until 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada announced the special lighting on September 29. After 9:30 p.m., the bridge’s architectural lighting is scheduled to return to the blue-green pattern used during the fall bird-migration period.

The federal government designated September 30 as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour children who never returned home from residential schools, survivors and their families and communities. The day is also known as Orange Shirt Day.

The illumination is visible from several locations around the St. Lawrence River, but drivers should not stop on the bridge or approaches to view it.
