Three governments put $16.2 million into Oromocto wastewater link

Federal, New Brunswick and Oromocto governments have announced more than $16.2 million for wastewater infrastructure intended to support housing growth.

The project will design and build a lift station, force main and connecting works to transfer wastewater to the Base Gagetown treatment facility. Officials say the added capacity is meant to accommodate population growth expected over the next decade.

Ottawa is contributing more than $8.1 million, New Brunswick more than $5.4 million and Oromocto more than $2.7 million through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund.

The September 28 release did not provide a completion date or quantify how many homes the work could support. Federal funding is conditional on consultation and environmental-assessment requirements.
