Prices for Canadian manufactured products rose 1.3% in August, while raw-material prices increased 3.1%, Statistics Canada reported Thursday.

The Industrial Product Price Index was 13.5% higher than a year earlier. Even after energy and petroleum products were excluded, the index rose 0.8% from July.

Energy and petroleum products were the main contributor to the monthly increase, rising 4.0%. Refined petroleum products gained 4.6%, including a 9.6% increase for diesel fuel and an 8.5% rise for light fuel oils.

The Raw Materials Price Index climbed 22.8% over 12 months. Excluding crude energy products, raw-material prices rose 1.1% in August.

These are producer-side indexes, not a direct measure of consumer inflation. They track prices for products manufactured in Canada and raw materials purchased by Canadian manufacturers.
