The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has authorized longer operation for units 7 and 8 at the Bruce B nuclear generating station in Ontario.

The regulator amended the station’s licensing basis to permit each unit to operate up to 310,000 effective full-power hours, an increase from the previous 300,000-hour limit. The change does not alter the operating licence itself; it changes the approved basis under which the activities are carried out.

The commission said it considered submissions from Bruce Power, CNSC staff and nine intervenors. It concluded the operator is qualified and that health, safety and the environment will remain protected under the amended licensing basis.
