Makivvik is allocated $32.6 million from a new $130-million federal top-up for housing programs led by Inuit organizations, the federal government announced in Kuujjuaq on October 30.

The exact allocation to Makivvik is $32,567,112 over five years. Ottawa said eligible uses include transitional housing and shelters, housing navigators, rent subsidies and support for students and other vulnerable residents.

The new national allocation is in addition to $197.5 million announced earlier, bringing the combined amount for four Inuit Treaty Organizations to $327.8 million. The government said Makivvik has already used earlier funding toward a transitional home in Montréal for Inuit women and children, among other measures.
