Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk is scheduled to make his first spacewalk on October 29, working outside the International Space Station with NASA astronaut Anil Menon.

The pair are expected to install and deploy new solar panels. If the mission proceeds as planned, Kutryk will become the fifth Canadian astronaut to conduct a spacewalk outside the station.

Canada’s role extends beyond the astronaut on the spacewalk. CSA astronaut Jenni Gibbons is assigned as capsule communicator, Canadarm2 will handle the solar arrays, and engineering teams at the agency’s Longueuil headquarters designed the robotic sequence and will monitor the work in real time.

The agency says its broadcast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Eastern Time. It has also invited media to watch from the Montréal Science Centre, where astronaut David Saint-Jacques is expected to take questions at 9:30 a.m.

Spacewalk schedules can change because of station operations or technical conditions, so the October 29 timing remains planned rather than guaranteed.
