The federal government is providing more than $1.2 million to improve an existing access road serving a proposed northern Quebec lithium project.

The federal government is providing more than $1.2 million to rehabilitate and upgrade about 20 kilometres of an existing access road in northern Quebec.
Natural Resources Canada says the road runs from the Trans-Taiga Road toward the Shaakichiuwaanaan project, a lithium, caesium and tantalum deposit. The funding comes from the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund’s First and Last Mile Fund.
The recipient, Lithium Innova Inc., is wholly owned by PMET Resources Inc. Ottawa says the work is intended to improve year-round safety and reliability and support access as the project advances.
The announcement concerns road infrastructure; it does not state that mine construction or commercial production has begun.
