A Université de Montréal project examining access to breast-cancer screening is among the work supported by a newly announced $880-million federal research package.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research is providing more than $400 million for 439 health-research projects. The federal announcement highlighted the Montréal project as one example of research intended to improve health outcomes and access to care.

A further $480 million will flow through the Canada Research Training Awards Suite to support 6,485 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers across disciplines. The package combines project grants with trainee funding rather than assigning the full amount to any one institution.

For Montréal, the announcement places a local screening-access study within a national funding round. It does not announce a new screening program or change current medical guidance.
