Justice Canada and the Canadian Bar Association are launching a national series of judicial symposia aimed at encouraging experienced lawyers to consider applying for federally appointed courts.

The first event is scheduled for Halifax on November 20, 2026, with additional stops planned across Canada in 2027. The sessions are expected to explain the independent judiciary, the federal appointment process and the work involved in judicial service.

The initiative is an outreach and information program. It does not change the appointment process or announce any appointments.

Lawyers interested in the Halifax session are being directed to register through the Canadian Bar Association. Dates and locations for later events had not yet been detailed in the October 22 announcement.
