Eight Atlantic Canadian food and beverage companies are participating in a trade program in the United Kingdom and France aimed at increasing European sales.

The program included meetings in the United Kingdom from October 13 to 15 and participation in SIAL Paris from October 17 to 21. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency says the companies expect the activity to generate about $250,000 in sales within six months and $1 million within 12 months.

Those figures are targets reported by the agency, not completed sales. The federal agency is contributing $101,500, while participating provincial governments are contributing a combined $43,500, bringing public support to $145,000.

The effort gives smaller producers access to buyers at one of the world’s largest food trade shows, alongside targeted meetings in the UK market. It also reflects a broader push to diversify Canadian exports beyond North America.

For consumers and businesses in Québec, the program is a reminder that Canadian food exporters increasingly compete through regional branding, trade shows and distributor relationships rather than only through large commodity shipments.
