The federal government is investing $18.5 million in Prevost to support development of a new bus platform at the company’s Sainte-Claire, Québec, operation.

The contribution, through the Strategic Response Fund, supports an $87.5-million project called the One Prevost Platform. It is intended to accommodate several propulsion technologies, including low- and zero-emission options.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada announced the funding October 16. The department says the project is expected to maintain 1,265 full-time-equivalent jobs and provide 156 co-op work terms in Canada.

Prevost, a division of Volvo Group Canada, was founded in Sainte-Claire in 1924 and manufactures coach buses for public and private customers in Canada and the United States. The company says the project will include a new commuter motorcoach for public-sector buyers and electrification of its X-series model.
