The federal government announced nearly $270 million for two New Brunswick electricity projects, including a $219-million Canada Infrastructure Bank loan to NB Power for planning work at the Mactaquac Generating Station.

The loan will support technical studies, regulatory reviews, First Nations engagement and other planning for the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project. It is not financing notice that the full rehabilitation is complete. NB Power’s phased program is intended to address deteriorating concrete and extend the 672-megawatt station’s life to 100 years.

Natural Resources Canada is also providing $50 million for a static synchronous compensator at the Salisbury Terminal. The equipment is intended to strengthen grid stability in southern New Brunswick and support additional renewable generation.
