Ottawa opens charity-sector consultation through December 3
Finance Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency are seeking feedback on registration, digital service, compliance and appeal processes for registered charities.

The federal government has opened a consultation on possible changes to the rules and administration governing Canada’s charitable sector, with submissions due December 3, 2026.
The Department of Finance and Canada Revenue Agency announcement, published October 8, says more than 86,000 charities are registered in Canada.
The consultation asks about the registration process, digital service delivery, audit and compliance work, and the procedures used when registration is revoked or a charity objects to a decision. The government says the goal is to identify ways to make the framework more effective while maintaining public confidence.
Charities, donors, volunteers and other interested people can follow the consultation link in the federal notice to review the questions and submit comments. The exercise is a request for feedback, not a set of enacted changes.
