Canada and China have agreed to relaunch their ministerial dialogue on the environment following meetings in Beijing from September 27 to 29.

Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin and China’s ecology and environment minister, Huang Runqiu, made the commitment during the annual meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development, according to a federal release.

The dialogue is a government-to-government forum. The announcement did not include a meeting date, a new treaty or specific emissions targets, so it should be understood as a renewed channel for talks rather than a completed climate agreement.

Dabrusin also met Canadian business representatives to discuss clean-technology activity in China. The Canada China Business Council is planning a Canadian clean-technology mission to China in November 2026, the release said.

The visit followed Canada and China’s January commitment to expand cooperation on climate and the environment through existing bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
