Ottawa commits $27.7 million to new medical camp for children

The federal government has committed $27.7 million toward a medically supported overnight camp in eastern Ontario for children with cancer or serious illnesses.

The planned Campfire Circle facility in Prince Edward County is expected to include an activity centre, dining hall, accessible recreation facilities, creative and cultural spaces, and equestrian facilities.

Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada said the project is receiving $27,718,655 through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund.

The federal release also lists $90 million in philanthropic donations for the broader project effort, including $20 million from Emmanuelle Gattuso and $15 million from Stu and Kim Lang.

The federal contribution is subject to a signed agreement and to applicable conditions, including environmental assessment and consultation with Indigenous peoples.
