Ottawa directs $275,000 to three September sport events in Québec

Three international sport events in Québec will receive a combined $275,000 from the federal Sport Canada Hosting Program, according to a September 10 announcement.

The largest Québec allocation is $150,000 to Cycling Canada for the Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal. The Québec City race takes place Friday, September 11, followed by the Montréal event on Sunday, September 13.

Gatineau and Québec City events also funded

Cycling Canada will receive another $50,000 for the Tour de Gatineau on September 16 and 17. Tennis Canada will receive $75,000 for the Davis Cup tie between Canada and France in Québec City on September 18 and 19.

The same federal release lists $100,000 for an athletics invitational held in Edmonton in July and $100,000 for the men’s continental volleyball championships in Moncton from September 11 to 19. Across all five events, the newly listed support totals $475,000.

The hosting program funds international competitions in Canada, including championships, qualification events and world cups. The announcement describes approved grants; it does not estimate the individual events’ attendance or economic impact.
