Montréal maintains water-saving appeal as consumption stays below new-restriction threshold

Montréal is maintaining its appeal to conserve drinking water while emergency work affects major water mains near avenue Atwater, according to a municipal update dated September 7.

The city reported consumption of 1.11 billion litres for September 6. It described demand as stable and below the threshold for additional restrictions.

The appeal covers the whole agglomeration, including reconstituted cities, rather than only the neighbourhoods closest to the work.

Montréal says an inspected main had to be shut down while two others in the same sector were already closed for reconstruction or rehabilitation. One main remains operational there.

Residents and businesses are being asked to keep reducing demand. The update says municipal measures include suspending non-essential watering and decorative fountains, while pools and splash pads remain open.
