DDO plans new garbage bins this fall ahead of mechanized collection

Dollard-des-Ormeaux residents are set to receive new gray wheeled garbage bins this fall as the city prepares to introduce mechanized collection in 2027.

The city announced the transition on August 31. Its accompanying guide says eligible residential addresses will receive their bins without registration or a delivery fee, and residents do not need to be home.

Once the new system begins, the city-issued bin will be the approved container for waste that cannot be recycled or composted. Loose garbage bags, traditional round cans, non-compliant wheeled bins and waste left beside the bin will no longer be accepted.

Those restrictions belong to the future system. The guide says residents can use the new bin when it arrives and continue using their other bins until the official launch.

A separate monthly bulky-item collection is also planned. The city has not yet provided an exact launch date or the new collection schedule.

Apartment and condo residents should check arrangements with their building manager, since shared containers may be assessed for multi-unit properties. Keep the city’s transition guide handy as delivery and collection details are updated.
