Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced at the company’s annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday that its artificial intelligence offering, Meta AI, has now reached one billion monthly active users across Meta’s suite of apps. This significant milestone represents a two-fold increase from the 500 million monthly active users the service recorded last September.
Zuckerberg emphasized that the company’s primary focus this year is on enhancing user interactions by further developing Meta AI’s personalized features, voice-based functionality, and entertainment offerings. He explained that Meta intends to expand the capabilities of its AI assistant before considering monetization strategies. Potential revenue-generating avenues might include integrating paid recommendations into the service or introducing subscription plans that allow users to access additional computing power for more intensive usage.
If Meta decides to adopt a subscription-based model, the service would position itself in direct competition with popular AI conversational tools such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The announcement follows the recent launch of Meta’s standalone AI application last month, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a prominent figure in the rapidly expanding AI market.
