Reddit has introduced automatic translation for posts and comments in Hindi, expanding its machine translation functionality to better serve users in India. “With this enhancement, more authentic, community-generated content becomes accessible in one of India’s most widely spoken languages,” the company noted in a blog update. Reddit also disclosed plans to soon offer translations in Bengali.
The rollout is part of Reddit’s broader push to increase engagement across diverse linguistic and cultural groups, particularly in India. Last May, the platform initially started testing automatic translations site-wide, with French as the first language supported. In September, Reddit expanded the feature into more than 35 nations, simultaneously adding Spanish and Portuguese translations.
Earlier this month, Reddit released its AI-powered search tool, Answers, to users in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Originally, this search enhancement had been limited to select U.S. users.
India remains a key strategic market for Reddit, as evidenced by continued investments in staffing across community engagement, growth initiatives, legal, and engineering roles. The company is actively expanding its workforce in India, hiring specifically for roles aimed at bolstering content quality and community interactions in the region.
