Substack announced on Tuesday that it’s rolling out a new audio-only livestreaming feature for its publishers. This option allows creators who prefer not to appear on camera to still engage directly with their subscribers through a more relaxed, audio-exclusive format. Additionally, the feature serves as an excellent solution for publishers who value anonymity while interacting live with their audiences.
Using the audio-only livestream mode is straightforward — publishers simply need to click the camera icon to deactivate video at the time of starting their livestream. If publishers decide later to switch back to video, they can reactivate it at any point during the broadcast. Participants in the audio stream can continue to comment in real-time and subscribe, maintaining the interactive feel familiar from regular livestreams.
The platform expects to begin rolling out this update next week. The move comes shortly after Substack expanded livestreaming to all publishers earlier this year, removing a previous limitation which required creators to have at least 100 paying subscribers.
