Google is preparing for its biggest developer event of the year, Google I/O 2025, scheduled for May 20 and May 21 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. CEO Sundar Pichai, alongside DeepMind co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis, will take the stage alongside executives from Google’s Search, Cloud, and Android divisions to introduce significant updates to the company’s products and technology.
The central focus of this year’s conference will heavily emphasize artificial intelligence. Google’s flagship AI family, Gemini, is expected to play a starring role as the company continues competing strongly against industry rivals like OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI. Additionally, anticipated updates could cover DeepMind’s multimodal AI development initiative, Project Astra, building upon last year’s surprise reveal of AI-powered smart glasses.
AI’s presence will be woven into nearly every announcement. Elizabeth Reid, Google’s head of Search, will deliver a presentation highlighting how generative AI tools are transforming search engines. Attendees will also hear about AI’s role in scientific research, how autonomous AI agents will interact with applications, and Waymo’s continued advancements in applying AI to self-driving vehicles.
The main keynote address will begin at 10 a.m. PT on the opening day. The event will be available online through livestreams, allowing global audiences to participate remotely. Following the main presentation, a developer-specific keynote starts at 1:30 p.m. PT, placing greater emphasis on technology behind-the-scenes rather than consumer-facing announcements.
Later, at 3:30 p.m. PT, Demis Hassabis will engage in a discussion about the future implications of DeepMind’s AI technologies with Alex Kantrowitz, host of the Big Technology Podcast. Concurrent sessions include detailed updates on Android, Chrome, and Google Cloud services.
Not all sessions at I/O 2025 will be livestreamed; however, extensive coverage will be provided, capturing and reporting the key highlights that emerge throughout the two days. Ahead of Google I/O, Android updates will be previewed separately during an event titled “The Android Show,” scheduled for the preceding Tuesday at 10 a.m. PT, which will also be available to view through livestream.
