TikTok has announced the rollout of ALT text support for photo posts on its platform, aimed at enhancing accessibility for users with visual and cognitive impairments. With this new capability, creators can now add descriptive text to images, providing crucial information that users relying on screen readers can hear as spoken descriptions.
According to TikTok, this feature can be integrated either at the time of image upload or even after the post has already been published. With this update, TikTok joins other popular social networking platforms like Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), Reddit, Mastodon, and Tumblr, all of which previously implemented ALT text support.
The introduction of ALT text is the latest addition to TikTok’s expanding suite of accessibility tools. Other recent enhancements include auto-generated captions for video content and adjustable text size settings, helping ensure broader usability across its entire user base.
