Opera recently unveiled its next-generation browser, Opera Neon, specifically designed to leverage cutting-edge artificial intelligence capabilities. The new browser is positioned to handle complex tasks for users, including coding webpages and games, online shopping, and completing various forms automatically.
Currently available only through a waitlist, Opera confirmed that Neon will require users to subscribe upon its official release, though specific pricing details have not yet been disclosed.
Opera Neon’s interface stands out with three prominent AI-driven features located on a dedicated sidebar: “Chat,” “Do,” and “Make.” The “Chat” feature functions as a sophisticated AI-powered chatbot, allowing users to search seamlessly, obtain detailed answers, and delve deeper into information regarding the content they are viewing online.
The “Do” feature utilizes Opera’s Browser Operator AI Agent, first introduced by the company earlier this year. This AI-driven assistant specializes in automating mundane activities directly within the browser environment, such as form-filling, trip bookings, and other routine digital tasks.
Perhaps the most ambitious feature is the “Make” button, which enables users to generate websites, create snippets of code, build simple games, or compose reports simply by entering descriptive text prompts. According to Opera, these advanced tasks are processed via cloud-based virtual machines—allowing the browser to conduct multiple operations simultaneously, even when users experience brief periods offline.
While the announced features promise significant improvements to user experience, similar AI-driven applications have previously faced criticism for falling short of their advertised capabilities. Furthermore, Opera isn’t alone in integrating AI into browsing. Last year, The Browser Company also previewed its own AI-enhanced web browser aimed at streamlining user workflows, and Google continues to actively develop AI tools designed both to automate searches and perform various online tasks automatically.
