Instagram Threads, the microblogging platform developed by Meta as a competitor to X (formerly Twitter), has now surpassed 350 million monthly active users. CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared this milestone during Meta’s first-quarter 2025 earnings announcement. Over the past three months alone, Threads welcomed 30 million additional users, marking a notable acceleration compared to the 20 million gained in the previous quarter, bringing its total from 320 million to the current figure.
The recent growth puts Threads nearly on par with the entire user base of one of its emerging rivals, Bluesky, a decentralized social networking service with approximately 35 million monthly users. While Threads’ numbers pale in comparison to Meta’s primary platforms—Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp—it is gradually solidifying its position within the competitive landscape of social apps.
Meta reported that across its suite of products, over 3.4 billion individuals globally currently engage with at least one Meta-owned platform every day. During the earnings call, Zuckerberg emphasized the significance of Threads’ steady ascent, reaffirming the company’s belief that the service is “well on its way to becoming our next major social app.”
