Instacart has appointed its Chief Business Officer, Chris Rogers, as the company’s new CEO. His tenure as chief executive will officially start on August 15, at which point he will also join Instacart’s Board of Directors.
This announcement follows closely on the heels of current CEO Fidji Simo’s recent decision to step down as chief executive. Simo will leave the CEO role to become the CEO of Applications at OpenAI, though she will remain Instacart’s Board Chair.
As Chief Business Officer, Rogers had significant leadership responsibilities, directing Instacart’s relationships with retailers, its expansion strategy, advertising revenue streams, research and development, strategic partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions. Under his leadership were also Instacart Business and Instacart Health divisions.
Rogers has been with Instacart since 2019. Prior to joining the grocery-tech firm, he spent nearly eleven years at Apple, including serving as Managing Director for Apple Canada. Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions at Procter and Gamble, managing important relationships with leading Canadian grocery retailers.
In a statement following the announcement, Rogers emphasized his passion for Instacart’s mission of reenergizing the way people purchase groceries and maintain family wellness. He underscored the importance of continued innovation, close partnerships, and dedication to practical consumer needs. He affirmed his commitment to maintaining Instacart’s current direction while growing opportunities for both partner retailers and the company’s platform shoppers.
Outgoing CEO Fidji Simo shared her support for Rogers in a message to Instacart employees. She wrote that Rogers’ deep familiarity with Instacart’s business model, broad operational experience, and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with partner retailers made him the clear candidate to guide Instacart into its next growth phase. Simo said she will work closely with Rogers in the next several months to ensure a seamless leadership transition.
