Tech Titans Enlist: Silicon Valley’s Top Minds Secretly Join U.S. Army Reserve for a Mysterious Cyber Mission

Chief Technology Officers from prominent Silicon Valley technology companies, including Meta, Palantir, and OpenAI, have signed up for part-time positions in the U.S. Army Reserve. The move comes eight months after the U.S. Defense Department publicly invited top-tier executives from the technology sector to join the Reserve and lend expertise periodically to short-term missions focused primarily on data management and cybersecurity.

Among the inaugural group are Andrew Bosworth, CTO at Meta, and Shyam Sankar, CTO at Palantir. Joining them will be two senior figures from OpenAI—Kevin Weil, the Chief Product Officer, and Bob McGrew, the Chief Research Officer.

This initiative, created to bridge the technology gap between the private sector and the military, aims to capitalize on highly specialized technical skills from industry leaders for strategic military projects.
