Snap’s Secret Move: Unveiling the Mystery Behind the Saturn Acquisition and Its Impact on Student Lives

Snap has confirmed its acquisition of Saturn, a popular calendar app tailored specifically for high school and college students. Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed. Following the deal, Saturn will continue to operate independently as a separate app.

Saturn, launched in 2018, has successfully transformed the traditional calendar model by introducing social features that allow students to connect seamlessly with their classmates. Rather than sharing screenshots or separate schedules, users can effortlessly view their friends’ class timetables, extracurricular activities, rehearsals, sports practices, games and other pre-scheduled events, facilitating better real-time coordination and planning among peers.

According to Snap, nearly the entire team behind Saturn—approximately 30 full-time employees—will be joining the company under the terms of this acquisition. Although explicit details about future plans have not been revealed, a spokesperson for Snap indicated the company’s intention to leverage Saturn’s expertise and innovative approach to scheduling by integrating it into Snapchat in new and creative ways.

Currently supported by a significant majority of U.S. high schools—around 80%, according to Snap—Saturn has gained traction for making class schedules more interactive and engaging. The merger aims to further amplify user experiences by bridging digital connections to more real-world activities and interactions among students.
