Patreon, a popular platform known for enabling creators to monetize their content through membership subscriptions and digital goods, announced changes to its pricing structure. Starting August 4, 2025, Patreon will shift from its current tier-based approach—which typically charges creators either an 8% or 12% fee—to a single, uniform rate of 10%. This adjusted pricing structure will only affect newcomers to the platform, while all existing creators will retain their current fee arrangement.
The company explained the move in a published statement, noting that it has considerably expanded its suite of tools and services over time. “Since we last updated our prices six years ago, Patreon has expanded beyond just payments to include media hosting, community, and discovery,” it said.
While price increases rarely receive warm welcomes, Patreon defended the decision by highlighting several robust features rolled out in recent years to strengthen creator offerings. These additions include built-in video hosting capabilities, native livestreaming, digital merchandise sales, free-tier membership options, and gift subscriptions, increasing the overall value delivered to its users.
Creators interested in launching their Patreon accounts might find it advantageous to join the platform before the August deadline to lock in the existing, lower 8% rate.
