OpenAI’s Secret Project: A New Social Media Rival to Musk and Meta?

OpenAI is reportedly working on its own social media platform, similar to Elon Musk’s X, according to a recent report. Though still in its early developmental stages, the project reportedly includes an internal prototype that integrates a social media feed specifically built around ChatGPT’s image generation capabilities.

Currently, it remains uncertain whether OpenAI intends to launch this social network as a standalone application or incorporate it into the existing ChatGPT app. Should it make it to a public release, this new venture would place OpenAI directly in competition with major platforms such as Musk’s X, and Meta’s popular networks, Facebook and Instagram.

Moreover, developing a social media platform would give OpenAI access to real-time data beneficial for enhancing and training their AI models—a significant advantage already enjoyed by existing social networks.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has reportedly discussed the project privately with external individuals to solicit feedback. Although there is no confirmation yet on a potential public launch, the existence of an internal prototype clearly indicates OpenAI’s ambition to diversify its offerings beyond its current AI products.
