OpenAI has announced it reached $10 billion in annual recurring revenue, significantly up from roughly $5.5 billion reported last year. According to a spokesperson, the figure includes earnings from consumer offerings, ChatGPT-focused business products, and API services.
Currently, OpenAI boasts over 500 million weekly active users along with approximately three million paying corporate customers. Achieving this revenue milestone comes approximately two and a half years after the launch of the company’s widely popular ChatGPT chatbot platform. With its sights firmly set on continued growth, OpenAI aims to reach $125 billion in annual revenue by 2029.
Rapid revenue growth remains critical for the company, as OpenAI faces considerable financial burdens from ongoing investments in infrastructure, talent acquisition, and development needed to maintain and expand its sophisticated AI systems. The company previously indicated spending billions annually to sustain these operations. However, OpenAI has not publicly shared details regarding its operating expenses nor provided clarity around its current profitability status.
