Google is set to host its premier annual developer event, Google I/O 2025, on May 20 and May 21. At this key industry gathering, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai will join DeepMind co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis, along with senior executives leading Search, Cloud, and Android divisions, to unveil significant updates to Google’s extensive product suite.
Artificial intelligence is expected to overshadow other topics as this year’s central theme. Google’s advanced AI model collection, Gemini, is particularly anticipated to attract considerable attention, reinforcing the company’s aggressive endeavour to lead the field against formidable rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Elon Musk’s xAI. Significant announcements regarding DeepMind’s developments, most notably the multimodal AI platform Project Astra, are also on the agenda. Last year, Google previewed smart glasses utilizing Astra’s technology, hinting at further advancements to be showcased during this event.
Throughout Google I/O, top executives will highlight AI’s integration across virtually every aspect of Google’s offerings. Elizabeth Reid, head of Search, will discuss advancements in using generative AI to enhance search capabilities. Additional presentations will demonstrate how scientists and businesses leverage artificial intelligence solutions, showcase how automated AI agents will interact effectively with applications, and elaborate on Waymo’s pioneering use of AI-driven technologies for autonomous vehicle navigation.
The event begins with the main keynote at 10 a.m. PT on May 20, broadcast live from the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. Later in the afternoon, at 1:30 p.m. PT, a separate developer-focused keynote session will dive deeper into technical capabilities and innovations specifically intended for Google’s developer community.
Highlight sessions later in the day include Demis Hassabis in conversation about the future impacts and global implications of DeepMind’s AI research. Concurrently, presentations providing the latest updates on Android, Chrome, and Google Cloud will also take place, all streaming live.
Meanwhile, Google has moved announcements regarding Android innovations to a separate event titled “The Android Show,” occurring one week before Google I/O. That Android-focused briefing kicks off on Tuesday at 10 a.m. PT, showcasing the platform’s latest developments ahead of the main conference.
Throughout Google I/O 2025, some sessions will not be livestreamed, but major announcements will be widely covered.
