OpenAI and The Washington Post announced a new partnership today, under which ChatGPT will incorporate summaries and direct links to articles from the Post in its responses. This collaboration marks another notable step for OpenAI, which has already established agreements with more than twenty other media outlets, including The Guardian and Axios.
According to The Washington Post, partnering with OpenAI will enable it to reach ChatGPT’s expansive global audience, currently exceeding 500 million users. OpenAI, on its end, anticipates improving the quality and timeliness of ChatGPT’s output by drawing upon the Post’s reputable journalism and rigorous reporting standards.
Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed. Representatives from The Washington Post declined to comment further, while OpenAI did not immediately respond to inquiries.
Although OpenAI has successfully formed several partnerships with news providers, not all media organizations have welcomed collaboration. Notably, The New York Times has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the company of improperly using its copyrighted material. OpenAI has denied these claims.
