On Tuesday, Meta will host its premier artificial intelligence developer event, LlamaCon, centered around its Llama family of open-source AI models. Significant updates aimed at the developer community are expected, alongside announcements regarding the company’s broader AI initiatives.
Held at Meta’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, LlamaCon is inviting a limited group of developers and journalists to attend in person. For a global audience, the company will livestream the event’s highlights, including keynote presentations and fireside chats, through the Meta for Developers Facebook Page and the Meta Developers YouTube channel.
The program begins at 10:15 a.m. Pacific Time, featuring a keynote address by Chris Cox, Meta’s Chief Product Officer; Manohar Paluri, Vice President of AI; and Angela Fan, a research scientist specializing in generative AI.
At 10:45 a.m., CEO Mark Zuckerberg will join Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO of Databricks, for a fireside discussion on open-source AI and application development. The collaboration between the two companies was formalized earlier this year, when Meta took on the role of “strategic advisor” in Databricks.
Later, at 4 p.m., Zuckerberg is also scheduled to have another in-depth discussion with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Their dialogue will focus on emerging trends and innovations in AI, alongside practical recommendations for developers who aim to remain competitive within the industry.
The stakes for Meta are notably high. Recently, the company launched its newest Llama 4 AI models, which received a lukewarm reception from the developer community. The models were criticized for falling behind competing offerings from firms such as OpenAI, DeepSeek, Anthropic, and Google.
Further complicating the situation, Meta faced controversy shortly after the release, due to allegations of artificially inflating performance scores on the popular LM Arena benchmark by submitting a specially optimized model variant. Meta defended itself but later publicly released a less successful version of the model, reigniting criticism over transparency and benchmarking practices.
With LlamaCon, Meta seeks to rebuild its reputation and reestablish trust among developers, emphasizing its continued commitment to the open-source AI ecosystem.
