Samsung is reportedly nearing a major investment in the AI search startup Perplexity, a move that would significantly integrate Perplexity’s artificial intelligence features into Samsung’s own devices. According to industry insiders, the South Korean tech giant aims not only to become a prominent investor in Perplexity’s ongoing $500 million funding round—valuing the startup at approximately $14 billion—but also plans to incorporate the startup’s AI assistive technology directly onto Samsung smartphones.
Under discussions is an arrangement that would preload Perplexity’s standalone app and digital assistant onto future Samsung devices, alongside integrating Perplexity’s advanced search capabilities within Samsung’s default browser. Additionally, the companies are said to be considering deeper technological integration, such as leveraging Perplexity’s AI infrastructure to enhance features of Samsung’s existing virtual assistant, Bixby.
While details are still being finalized, the companies could publicly announce their collaboration before the end of this year. Samsung and Perplexity representatives have not yet commented publicly on these developments.
Samsung is not the only major tech firm interested in Perplexity. Apple previously explored adding Perplexity AI as a search engine option in its Safari web browser, and Motorola has already entered into a partnership with Perplexity to provide enhanced AI-driven functions in its devices.
