Meta is currently engaged in discussions to acquire Play AI, a startup specializing in voice cloning technology, according to anonymous sources familiar with the matter. The potential acquisition is part of Meta’s broader strategy to expand its consumer-facing artificial intelligence features.
Play AI enables users to generate highly realistic cloned voices suitable for various AI-driven applications, including customer service interactions. The startup has raised approximately $23.5 million in funding from notable venture firms such as 500 Startups, Kindred Ventures, Race Capital, 500 Global, and Soma Capital.
Should the acquisition proceed, Meta plans to absorb Play AI’s voice cloning technology and integrate key personnel into its current AI research and development teams. This move would complement Meta’s recent efforts to enhance creative tools available across its platforms, where users can already build custom AI chatbots and access AI-powered video editing features.
As of now, neither Meta nor Play AI have issued public statements or responded to requests for comments regarding the acquisition discussions.
